THE ESSENTIALS · 30-SECOND OVERVIEW
Implant ≠ crown
A zirconia crown may be fitted to a titanium implant.
Ask about evidence
Results depend on the implant design and the clinical situation.
Check every component
The implant, abutment and screw may use different materials.
When comparing zirconia vs titanium implants in Turkey, first check what each quotation means by “zirconia”. It may describe the visible crown rather than the implant placed in the jaw. Understanding that distinction makes it easier to compare the actual treatment, ask useful questions and avoid choosing a system on the basis of a material name alone.
A zirconia crown is not the same as a zirconia implant
The implant replaces the root function of a missing tooth; the crown replaces its visible portion. A titanium implant can support a tooth-coloured ceramic crown. Therefore, an offer for “zirconia teeth” does not establish that the implant itself is ceramic. The American Dental Association explains the implant and its restoration.
Ask the clinic to identify these separately in your proposed plan: the implant body, the connecting component and the final crown or bridge. If you want a particular material, make clear which part of the restoration you are asking about.
How do the materials differ?
Titanium is a metal. Zirconia, or zirconium dioxide, is an oxide ceramic. Their colour and material characteristics differ, and implant systems made from them can also have different designs. The ITI comparison of zirconia and titanium implants discusses these material and clinical differences.
| Question to compare | Why it matters for your decision |
|---|---|
| What material is the implant body? | Distinguishes the implant from the crown advertised in a package. |
| Is the system one-piece or two-piece? | Identifies the actual design being proposed. |
| What research supports this model? | Prevents evidence for one system being treated as proof for every system. |
| How will the final tooth be attached? | Makes the full restoration part of the discussion. |
| Who can obtain replacement components? | Helps plan maintenance when you return home. |
Use the comparison to understand the proposed system rather than to look for a universal winning material.

What does the clinical evidence show?
The 2023 ITI consensus supports zirconia implants in selected indications. Its five-year evidence mainly covers one-piece implants for single crowns or short bridges; evidence for newer two-piece designs was limited. Findings should not be generalised to every model or treatment.
For your consultation, ask the dentist to relate the evidence to the proposed restoration. A study about a single missing tooth may not answer your questions about an extensive fixed bridge. It is reasonable to ask what is established, what remains uncertain and why the clinician considers the particular system appropriate.
Does ceramic mean completely metal-free?
Some two-piece ceramic systems use a metal connecting screw. Ask about every component if avoiding metal is a priority. The ITI patient perspectives explain this distinction.
If you have a diagnosed allergy or a previous suspected material reaction, explain exactly what happened and what testing was performed. Bring the available report for clinical review. A history of reacting to one material should be discussed carefully rather than translated into an assumed diagnosis involving every metal.
Will a ceramic implant prevent gum problems?
Ceramic implants can also develop peri-implant disease. Material selection does not remove the need for maintenance, cleanable restorations and assessment of the surrounding tissues. The ITI discussion of zirconia implants in daily practice addresses this limitation.
If your interest in ceramic implants follows a previous implant problem, ask for a separate explanation of that problem. The choice of replacement material should be considered within the new clinical plan, alongside the condition of the treatment site.
Comparing treatment proposals in Turkey
Request the manufacturer, model and restorative components in writing. Ask whether the quote includes only the implant placement or also the connecting component, temporary tooth and definitive crown. Clarify what could change after examination and how a change would be agreed.
For an international patient, maintenance support deserves its own discussion. Ask which records you will receive, whether components can be identified later, and how a dentist at home could communicate with the treating clinic. Our implant brand guide provides further questions about comparing systems.
Frequently asked questions
Is a titanium implant visible through a zirconia crown?
The appearance of the finished tooth requires assessment of the entire restoration and surrounding tissues. Ask for an explanation of the proposed design in your specific case rather than judging the result from the implant material alone.
Does a ceramic implant always cost more?
Compare itemised proposals for the same clinical need. A total fee may reflect different components, laboratory work or treatment stages, so a material label alone does not establish the price difference.
Should I choose the material before contacting the clinic?
You can state a preference, but first ask which options are available and suitable for assessment. A consultation is an opportunity to understand the choices, not a commitment to one system.
Ask about the complete treatment
When contacting Dentagram Istanbul, explain whether your question concerns the implant material, the crown material or both. The team can clarify the options to discuss during an individual assessment. You can also read our guide to implant treatment.
This comparison provides general information. Implant availability, suitability and the final restoration must be confirmed for the individual case.
