THE ESSENTIALS · 30-SECOND OVERVIEW
Ask for an itemised quotation based on the proposed treatment.
Separate clinical fees from travel and accommodation costs.
Allow for changes that may follow an in-person examination.
Understand the treatment quotation, possible extras and travel costs in one place.
Key takeaways
- There is no responsible single price for “dental treatment in Istanbul”; diagnosis, materials, laboratory work and complexity change the total.
- An online quote is normally provisional until the dentist has examined the mouth and reviewed suitable imaging.
- Ask whether the fee includes imaging, temporary restorations, implant components, the final restoration, reviews and possible grafting.
- Compare the total journey cost, not the headline treatment figure.
- A written plan should explain what is confirmed, what is optional and what could change after examination.
Why there is no single Istanbul dental treatment price
Two people asking for “veneers”, “implants” or a “full smile makeover” may need very different care. One may have healthy gums and intact enamel; another may need periodontal treatment, replacement of failing restorations or management of infection before cosmetic work begins. A missing tooth with adequate bone is not the same clinical problem as several missing teeth with reduced bone volume.
The total may be influenced by:
- the number and condition of teeth being treated;
- whether natural teeth can be preserved;
- gum health, decay, infection and existing restorations;
- the need for panoramic imaging, CBCT or digital scans;
- implant number, system and restorative components;
- material and laboratory complexity;
- temporary teeth and the design of the final restoration;
- extractions, bone grafting or sinus augmentation;
- the number of clinical phases and review appointments.
This is why a low advertised “per tooth” or “per implant” price can be an incomplete comparison. The implant fixture, abutment and crown may be separate items. A crown fee may not include a temporary crown, core build-up or root canal treatment. A veneer proposal may change if the clinical examination shows that a tooth is heavily restored or unsuitable for a veneer.
What a dental quotation may include
A useful quotation names the treatment and its scope rather than relying on package language. The table below is a checking tool; inclusion varies between clinics and cases.

| Cost area | Questions to ask before accepting the quote |
|---|---|
| Assessment and imaging | Is the clinical examination included? Which X-rays or CBCT scans are included, and could further imaging be needed? |
| Treatment planning | Is the written plan included? Are digital scans, photographs, smile planning or a diagnostic mock-up separate? |
| Temporary teeth | Will I receive a temporary crown, bridge, denture or provisional full-arch restoration? Is adjustment included? |
| Implant treatment | Does the figure include the implant fixture, healing component, abutment, final crown or bridge and all original components? |
| Restorative treatment | Does the crown or veneer price include preparation, temporary restoration, laboratory stages, try-in, fitting and bite adjustment? |
| Reviews | Which post-operative and completion reviews are included, and for how long? |
| Medicines | Are prescribed medicines included or paid separately at a pharmacy? |
| Travel support | Are airport transfer or hotel arrangements included, optional or simply recommended by a third party? |
Dentagram provides an itemised, case-specific estimate after the available records have been reviewed and the clinical assessment has been completed. Ask which items are confirmed and which remain provisional.

New imaging or a changed diagnosis
An initial estimate may be based on limited records. In-person examination can reveal active gum disease, decay beneath an old restoration, a cracked tooth, an unsuitable bite or bone anatomy that was not visible in photographs. CBCT is not required for every dental procedure, but three-dimensional imaging is commonly used when implant anatomy must be assessed. Leeds Teaching Hospitals explains that CBCT can help assess bone and nearby structures such as roots, nerves and sinuses.
Bone grafting and sinus augmentation
If there is not enough bone in the planned implant position, grafting may be considered before or during implant placement. A larger graft or sinus procedure can change both the fee and the number of visits. It should not be added simply to fit a package; the dentist should explain the clinical reason, alternatives, material and effect on the timeline.
Temporary and final restorations
Temporary teeth are not the same as final teeth. Ask which restoration you will leave with after the first visit, what it is made from, how long it is expected to be used and whether a later definitive crown or bridge is included. Full-arch cases may involve a surgical phase, a provisional restoration, healing and a later laboratory phase for the definitive teeth.
Additional treatment to preserve teeth
Root canal treatment, periodontal care, replacement of a defective filling or management of decay may be needed before a crown or veneer is fitted. These are not “hidden” costs when they arise from a new diagnosis, but the possibility should be discussed before travel and confirmed in writing if the plan changes.
Travel and time costs that sit outside the clinic quote
The financial comparison should also include:
- return flights and baggage;
- accommodation for the patient and any companion;
- local transport not included in the clinic arrangement;
- meals and daily expenses;
- travel insurance and the limits of its medical-treatment cover;
- time away from work or caring responsibilities;
- a possible second clinical visit;
- the cost of a local dentist reviewing an urgent problem;
- a return journey if remedial work must be carried out in Istanbul.
Exchange-rate movement can change the sterling cost between the estimate, deposit and final payment. Ask which currency governs the invoice, when conversion is applied and whether card or bank charges are added.
Online estimate versus the plan after examination
Remote photographs and existing radiographs can help a clinic understand the enquiry and discuss broad options. They cannot establish gum measurements, tooth vitality, mobility, crack depth, bite forces or all anatomical details. The final plan should be confirmed after clinical examination and appropriate imaging.
A change after examination is not automatically a warning sign. The important questions are whether the change is clinically explained, documented, priced before treatment and discussed without pressure. General Dental Council standards for UK dental teams provide a useful benchmark: patients should receive a written treatment plan with a realistic indication of cost, and changes should be explained and updated in writing.
Why choosing on price alone can be costly
The cheapest quote is not necessarily unsafe, and the most expensive quote is not necessarily better. Price becomes risky when it obscures scope. A lower figure may omit the final crown, original implant components, temporary teeth, grafting, reviews or aftercare. It may also assume that every planned tooth is treated in the same way without explaining alternatives that preserve more natural tissue.
Compare diagnosis, clinician, materials, records, maintenance and contingency arrangements alongside price. If two plans differ greatly, ask each dentist to explain which teeth are being treated, which are being preserved and why.

Frequently asked questions
Can a clinic confirm my final price from photographs?
Photographs can support an initial discussion, but they cannot replace examination and suitable imaging. A responsible clinic should identify which parts of the estimate remain provisional.
Are hotel and transfers normally included?
Some providers include or arrange them; others do not. Confirm who supplies the service, the dates, the hotel standard, cancellation rules and whether the travel element is part of the clinical contract.
Does an implant price usually include the crown?
Not always. Ask separately about the fixture, healing component, abutment, temporary tooth and final crown or bridge.
What happens if the plan changes in Istanbul?
The dentist should explain the finding, alternatives, additional cost and timing before proceeding. You should have time to ask questions and decline or postpone non-urgent treatment.
